The Penguins considered that since they could not find any ice in the rain forest it meant that either they were not good at it or that the umbrellas were made of golden stones and purple tears. Since the latter did not make much sense to them, they opted for the former and started lamenting themselves with strident screams, ample cries and a bit of self-pity. Thereafter, they sang ‘there is nothing like home’ and went further into the deep forest not knowing precisely why…

When the Penguins landed in the land of forests of water, they were surprised by the heat, the strange feathered animals, the others too and the bright colours. They realized that this was indeed the perfect hiding place for the ice cap. They smiled knowing that they were on the verge of a great discovery and counted to ten before going after the disappeared One.

By experience, the penguins that were, that had been and that would be – may be not the latter – knew that ice had not always been nice to their kind. It had always been a very predictable, nasty, bright, ferocious and treacherous fellow. Furthermore, the penguins were now aware that the ice-cap had gone away after having hypnotized all living beings to hide its move which makes it even more vicious. Hence, if they were to have a chance to find it at any point in time in the future the somber prospects of which were lying in front of them, they had to anticipate a very nasty but well-conceived ruse by the tricky ice-cap. An old penguin who had in her old days taken the shape of a grey cormorant suggested that the ice-cap had gone in hiding in the furthest remove place of all, a place which no-one would guess, anticipate or imagine that it would have hidden away there, namely the rain forest. The penguins burst into laughter, they were overwhelmed by joy and happiness and a deep sense of exhilaration and decided to leave at once. Some went to the deepest part of the Amazonian Region and others to Papua New Guinea…

The penguins were somewhat relief by the prospect that the ice cap had not melted down but run away from the North Pole. However, they could not avoid being perplexed by the intriguing situation posed by such a voluminous object fleeing. They find it very strange, to say the least, that none of the penguins that were and those that were not, for instance polar bears, fish or macaws, had witnessed a gigantic mass of ice moving up to its feet and start running away at quite a high speed. In their mind, it was quite clear that this could not have remained unnoticed. Hence, their conclusion that not only had the ice cap run away for reasons yet to be determined but also that it had hypnotized all living beings into oblivion, may be by singing, whistling or dancing. Accordingly, they decided to start their quest by singing, dancing and whistling and, given the efforts involved, eating and napping a bit.

An Unfinished Business: The Penguins’ Aphorisms

This is just out… For those who liked the penguins, surreal comments and abstract pictures…. My first intrusion into English-speaking writing. This will continue on the blog but the book compiles some of the texts and selected pictures.  Cheers, eric

All penguins in the world, including those who did not look like penguins anymore, for instance macaws, white doves, monkeys of various kinds including kind ones, purple rabbits or crying blue elephants, met in the middle of what used to be the North Pole ice cap to discuss where the latter had gone. They debated for 3 days, 23 hours, 15 minutes and 12 seconds to come to a conclusion which did not satisfy anyone but represented a significant consensual contribution to the thinking on the matter, namely that they did not have a clue. A baby penguin who was disguised as a brownish shark with no teeth noted that when someone was not present the best was to call him or her which prompted the sending of around 9.492 texts by various means, including meaningless ones, and contributed further to freezing the network which, in the circumstances, was a good thing. All were anxiously waiting for a reply…
